Lots of ocean liners along the shore. Camped around Hahnville awaiting the last 20 or so miles to the French Quarter. See ya’ll tomorrow in New Orleans.
Since Baton Rouge, we are passing endless industry on both shores which makes camping interesting. Michael finally caught a fish. 60 miles to New Orleans!
Left Baton Rouge and were caught in the afternoon thuderstorm. Paddled to an island by night. We are exactly 100 miles from the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Went to Lousiana State Museum. Lots of cool history about the significance of the Mississippi, Creole and Cajun folk, and the culture of Lousiana.
Made it to Baton Rouge and staying with Andrew’s parent’s pastor’s sister’s house and met the pastor and his family as well. Gumbo is awesome!
Last night was the first night not able to get service to same text message. Stormed on us before we reached St. Francisville.
Woke up before sunrise to get on the water before it was too hot. Enjoyed the view from up on the bluffs of Natchez before settling in on an island to sleep.
Left Vicksburg rather late and paddled till dark. Then decided to sleep and get up before dawn to make it to Natchez in the afternoon.
Made it to Vicksburg and met H.C. Porter, a native Mississippian artist, when exploring her gallery. http://www.hcporter.com/
